AI-generated pictures purporting to depict Venezuela's president in custody following his apprehension by the American authorities have amassed countless of impressions across the internet.

How AI Images of Maduro Emerged Within Hours

The first fake AI image seemingly showing him led off a plane circulated shortly after. This image was not shared any verified US channels; it was instead posted on X by an account purporting to be an “enthusiast of AI-generated art”.

Verification involved the SynthID tool, confirming the picture was created or altered with Google AI.

Additional AI-generated pictures were disseminated in the ensuing hours, seemingly depicting more angles of the leader in custody. Visible logos on the graphics show they originated from an Instagram profile named ultravfx.

AI analysis says the further pictures were likewise generated or edited AI technology.

Real Photo Posted but Fabrications Persisted

Donald Trump released the initial authentic image of Maduro in handcuffs aboard the US Navy ship on Saturday morning. However, despite the authentic image was made public, AI-generated images persisted online but were altered to show the grey athletic wear worn by Maduro.

Digital forensics indicate these updated fakes were first posted on TikTok by a digital art account. Again, analysis says the new graphics were created or altered Google AI.
